Latex exam gloves contain natural rubber which may cause allergic reactions in some individuals. One of the advantages of latex gloves is they are very tactile. Hence, they are very comfortable to wear.
Their durability and flexibility make latex gloves ideal for performing skin treatments. However, due to their natural rubber material, it is necessary to ask clients and/or patients about their allergies. Ideally, wearing latex gloves is for incidental contact.
They are ideal when performing with waterbased formulas. All gloves are a disposable single-use only. It is important to not re-use gloves once they have been in contact with an individual.
It is also important to prepare the hands before donning gloves. Wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds, then dry hands well. When using a hand sanitizer gel let hands dry for at least 30 seconds before donning the gloves. Do not use hand sanitizer when wearing latex gloves.
We sell only powder-free (pf) gloves due to reports stating, “Powdered medical gloves are being eliminated because of the toxicity of the powders used in lubrication.”
Gloves are essential when performing various skin treatments. It is also important to cuff gloves over your esthetic lab coat for the best skin clinician and client protection.
Latex gloves after made from natural rubber and are intended for incidental contact. One of the main advantages of latex gloves is that they are very tactile and are hence highly preferred for sensitive applications like surgery.
Another practical benefit of latex gloves is very durable, flexible, and comfortable to wear. Latex gloves are an excellent choice when dealing with water-based materials.
Latex gloves can cause skin allergies and reactions. Also, latex offers little chemical protection and is very poor when handling organic solvents.
It’s also very hard to detect lacerations or puncture holes in latex. Powdered latex gloves can cause additional health issues due to skin reactions and allergies caused by the latex and also by the lubricating powders.
There are two different types of gloves that a skin professional may want to consider Nitrile & Vinyl Gloves. Choosing the right glove depends on client sensitivity, formulas you handle, and if the cost is a priority to your business.
In addition to being latex-free, nitrile gloves are also extra strong despite being thin and hence quite sensitive to touch. These gloves are suitable for general use because they offer greater protection and are chemical resistant. Nitrile gloves can be used safely for both incidental and extended contact.
Nitrile gloves are that they have less tactile sensitivity than latex gloves. The synthetic nitrile rubber polymer is also not as cheap to produce as vinyl.
Gloves can be manufactured from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The main advantage of vinyl gloves is that they are latex-free and hence do not cause any skin allergies or reactions. Another proof using latex in glove production is that it is very cost-effective.
Vinyl is not ideal when handling most organic solvents and water-based solutions. Modern advancements in vinyl technology have enhanced its comfort, durability, tactile sensitivity, elongation/flexibility, and strength.
Whether selecting latex, vinyl, or nitrile all gloves provide incidental protection for you and your clients.
