For additional protection, sharps containers are generally made with durable punctured resistance plastic. They are often self-sealing and self-locking for protection against spills. For easy recognition, sharps containers have a universal biohazard symbol on the container. May also be in a yellow container for additional recognition.
Estheticians and other licensed skincare professionals that perform services like dermaplaning, microblading, micro-pigmentation, micro-needling, or nano-needling will need a container to dispose of their needles or blades.
However, each container has a fill line. It is important to not overfill the container. Furthermore, overfilling the container can result in an accidental stick to the professional. Whether disposing of dermaplaning blades, nano-infusion cartridges, or lancets sharps containers should be accessible when performing advanced skin treatments.
Developed with safety-engineered controls to meet OSHA standards for ease of use and needlestick prevention, our complete line of disposal containers is designed to be safe for clinicians, patients, and the environment.
Containers for contaminated sharps must be puncture-resistant. The sides and the bottom must be leakproof. The sharps container is generally designed in red, meaning a warning along with the symbol, and marked as bio-hazardous.
Licensed skincare professionals must contact their state board to obtain proper guidelines when opening a business or maintaining proper sanitation and/or sterilization within an active spa business.
Each state has its own guidelines for disposal when the fill-line is full. It is also good to contact the state’s health department to understand and know the proper disposable methods.
Before sharps disposal containers are removed or replaced, they must be closed to prevent spilling the contents. If there is a chance of leakage from the disposal container, the employer must ensure that it is placed in a secondary container that is closable, appropriately labeled or color-coded red, and constructed to contain all contents and prevent leakage during handling, storage, transport, or shipping.
The containers must be replaced routinely and not be overfilled, which can increase the risk of needlesticks or cuts. Sharps disposal containers that are reusable must not be opened, emptied, or cleaned manually or in any other manner that would expose workers to the risk of sharps injury.
